Moving is a pain, there’s no doubt about it. But there are ways to make it less painful, and one of those ways is by packing your clothes correctly. If you know how to pack clothes for moving properly, you’ll be able to avoid wrinkles, save space, and keep your clothes organized throughout the move. Here are a few tips on how to pack your clothes.

When moving abroad, there are many things you need to think about – what documents you need to travel, find a place to live, and other moving overseas requirements. That is why it is crucial to have a trusted partner to help you out and provide you with the most efficient move. And if you learn the best way to pack clothes for a move, this whole process will be much easier.

How to Pack Clothes for Moving – Start by Decluttering

The first step in learning how to pack clothing is to know what to keep and what to throw away. So, in essence, the first step is to organize your closet. Packing stuff you won’t keep is a waste of time and takes up room in your moving boxes that could be used for other things. Create a “trash” and a “giveaway” pile using notes and some additional floor space (or your bed). Put anything that doesn’t fit or that you haven’t worn in over a year in the giveaway pile after going through every item in your closet. Keep the trash bag handy in case you come across any debris while traveling.

Sell or Donate Extra Clothes

Once you have sorted all the piles, the next thing on your to-do list is to see what you will do with your giveaway pile. You can either sell them, donate them, or give them away to friends or family members. This will lighten your load and make the moving process simpler. Plus, it’s a great way to declutter your home before the move. If you decide to sell your clothes, there are a few different ways to do it. You can have a garage sale, sell them online, or take them to a consignment shop. Donating is also easy – you can donate to a thrift store or some charitable organization. And if you have clothes that are in good condition but you don’t want them anymore, giving them away is a great option.

So, when you’re deciding what to pack for a move, sort through your clothes and get rid of anything you don’t need. It will make the process easier and give you a chance to declutter your home.

Grab Some Supplies Before Packing Clothes for Moving

When moving overseas, the most important step is to know how to prevent things from breaking, and the best way to do so is by getting the right packing materials. The most important packing supply you will need is boxes. You can find free boxes at your local supermarket or stores, but you can also purchase boxes. The best is to buy medium size containers so they can be easier for you to carry them. There are other supplies you will need when packing fragile items or heavy belongings but the best way to move clothes is in boxes and specialized boxes such as large wardrobe boxes where you can hang your clothing.  Here is a list of other supplies you will need:

  • Duct tape and duct tape gun,
  • Labels,
  • Garbage bags or moving bags for clothes,
  • Containers,
  • Protective materials for delicate items.

Set Aside Clothes You’ll Wear During the Relocation Process

When moving internationally, you will spend some time abroad without your belongings, waiting for them to be shipped. And as you can imagine, living overseas without your clothing can be challenging. This is why you need to have your moving essentials packed with you. Set aside your moving day personal kit and your clothes for the big day. This attire ought to be cozy and appropriate for the climate. Have clothing on hand in case the weather changes unexpectedly, such as if it starts to rain.

Towels, underwear, and pajamas should also be set aside so that you can take a shower and sleep at your new house on the first night. Have a spare set of clothes on hand, as it can take one or two days for your belongings to be transferred. So, fill the duffel bags now, and keep adding to them as you finish packing.

Set Aside Off-Season Clothes Because They Should Be Packed First

Start packing off-season clothing as soon as all of your clothing has been arranged into piles and categories. If selected properly, you won’t be using this clothing within three months of your move. These boxes should be marked with a note indicating that they don’t need to be opened straight away. Make sure to safeguard the clothing from dampness and unwelcome bugs if you plan to keep it in storage for more than a few months.

Carefully Choose the Best Way to Pack Clothes When Moving

One thing is to know how to pack clothes when moving across the street or country, but with relocating across the world, the task is a bit more challenging. Your clothing will be transported in containers by sea, so moisture and bad weather is something to think about when thinking about how to pack clothes for moving overseas. Here are some relocation tips you can implement.

Use Wardrobe Boxes and Wrap All the Clothing in a Bag

A wardrobe box is excellent for long dresses or suits. These boxes will keep clothing still, and you will prevent them from getting all wrinkled. For extra protection, wrap each hanger in a bag. If you have a moving bag, that’s great, but an ordinary garbage bag will do the trick as well.

Use Vacuum Bags for Off-Season Clothing

As you know, you can put a lot of clothing in a vacuum bag and shrink it so it doesn’t take up too much space. However, this shrinking process will wrinkle all your clothing, so make sure you place only the clothing you are not planning to wear straight away.

Keep Shoes and Delicates Separately

To avoid damage, it’s crucial to keep all of your delicates and shoes apart from other items or clothing. Silk and other fragile materials should be wrapped with great care to offer an extra layer of protection.

Make a Bundle of Clothing

The bundle packing technique makes it simpler to organize the transferring clothing into and out of boxes. Place a single, large item – such as a jacket – across a flat surface. Place a smaller object on top of this one. Next, place something smaller than that. Fill the jacket to the brim and then wrap it around the other items of clothing to form a bundle. Fill a cardboard box with this and additional bundles, placing the heaviest on the bottom.

Make Sure You Pack Clean and Dry Clothing

Making friends abroad with moldy, smelly clothing will be difficult, even if you relocate to the friendliest country in the world. Do not make this classic moving mistake, and ensure all your clothing is clean and dry before you store it in the boxes. Also, adding an unused dryer sheet to a vacuum-sealed bag of clothing will also result in a set of clean, fragrant clothes or sheets when you unpack.

Garbage Bags Can Also Come in Handy

You can cover your garments with garbage bags to prevent them from being soiled. Simply poke a hole in the bottom of the bag and insert the hangers holding the clothing. You’re done once you tie a knot at the bottom and a twist tie at the top to keep the hangers connected.

If You Don’t Have Bags, Wrap Clothes in Plastic

Similar to garbage bags, plastic wraps can provide you with a lot of advantages. For starters, they don’t stick, and you can wrap them exactly to the length of your hanging clothing.

They can be used to keep garments in drawers safe and secure. You can use them to tightly wrap just how many items of clothing you need. Plastic wrap can be a terrific solution, but it does require some fine-tuning and is not the quickest way to pack clothes for moving. Check this video and see how this is done.

Hire Movers to Do the Heavy Lifting

If you are relocating to a new city alone or you are simply relocating at the last minute, the good advice would be to hire movers for packing services aside from standard moving services. This way, you will have a lot more time to deal with other important things and not worry about how to pack clothes for a move or whether your china is properly wrapped. Professional packers will not only do all the hard work for you, so you don’t have to pack all your household items, but they will know how to properly pack the items for this type of shipment. Because protecting your belongings is not only a thing you need to worry about but also how your items will be processed at the custom.

Use Different International Moving Services and Make Relocation Easy

You probably already realize that relocating abroad without the help of an international moving company can be a challenging and complicated thing to do. From paperwork to finding a container, this whole process can become more difficult than relocation itself. The best course of action is to find a company that can provide you with all the necessary services you will need, meaning car shipping, packing, moving, and storage. Shipping of your belongings and vehicle is considered to be one of the essential things you will need help with. However, if you truly want to sit back and relax and deal with other important things, such as learning a new language.
